How to Measure Your Pet

Measuring your dog carefully will insure a correct fit. It helps to have someone to assist you. The photo below shows you where to measure your pet. Below the picture is a description telling you how to measure each numbered area.

A cloth measuring tape works best, if you don't have a cloth measuring tape, you can use a piece of ribbon or string and then measure that against a ruler or yardstick.

Note:
It is always a good idea to take the measurements at least twice for accuracy. Write them down as you go using the numbers below.

As Demonstrated By Dragon

#1 The Neck - Place the tape around your dogs neck, where the collar sits. Not to tight or too loose, don't add inches to the total. I need the exact size of the neck. I will make any adjustments that need to be made.

#2 The Chest - Note: When measuring the chest area, the tape does NOT go around the stomach. Place the tape directly behind the front legs, and around the widest part of the chest or ribcage. This area will be different, depending on the breed of your dog. The widest part of the chest could be further back on some dogs then on others.

#3 The Back - I need two measurements for the back. Mid-way and then the Full back as described below in #4. The Mid-way mark is where you went around the ribcage or widest part of the chest in #3 above. Measure along the top of your dogs back, from the neck to the ribcage, as shown in the picture.

#4 The Full Back - Now, just like above, measure along the top of your dogs back, from the neck to the base (not the tip) of the tail.

#5 The Legs - Items with legs will need a leg measurement, this is especially important for breeds with short legs. I will need measurements for both the front and the back legs. To measure the legs, start on the inside of the leg and measure to the ankle as shown in the picture. Do the same for the back legs, starting at the inner thigh (where the leg meets the groin area) and measure down to the "ankle".

#6 The Waist - To measure the waist, place your tape around the mid-section as shown in the picture, slightly in front of the hind legs.

For Hats or Bonnets you will need to measure the space between your dogs ears, directly on top of your dogs head.

I will keep your pets measurements on file, so if you need to update them just drop me an e-mail. If your pet is still growing (less then a year old) then you will want to take new measurements each time you place an order.
Alot can change in a month.
